On Wednesday morning, the Council on Aging hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony the new common room addition at the Southborough Senior Center.
The public was invited, and about 65 people showed up to celebrate the room’s opening. A volunteer for the Senior Center provided a recap of the reception.*
Attendees included numerous town officials and representatives from Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School.
The additions was built by students of the vocational school during the 2023 – 2024 school year. The expense was covered by ARPA funds allocated by the Town of Southborough.
State Senator Jamie Eldridge State Representative Kate Donaghue each presented a citation to the Senior Center. Both expressed their support for Seniors in the State and pledged to continue working to promote Senior programs.
Other program speakers were Senior Center Director Pam Lefrancois, Director of Facilities John Parent, Council on Aging Vice Chair Bill Harrington, Assabet Supervising Teacher Wayne Coulson, Town Administrator Mark Purple, Select Board Chair Kathy Cook, ARPA Committee Chair Andrea Hamilton, and Council on Aging Chair Doug Peck.
The Ribbon Cutting to open the room was performed (pictured L-R in photos below contributed by Jan Vanselow) by Harrington, Lefrancois, and Parent (who operated the giant scissors).
Light refreshments were served after the program.
In addition to the contributed pics above, I found a couple of photos from the crowd’s perspective that were posted to Facebook by Southborough Recreation.
