The Southborough Library is bringing back Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens for another gardening workshop this Tuesday. This time the focus is on doing something that is good for both the environment and your garden.
A promotion for the event explains:
Pollinators are the life blood for good production. We will explore ways to attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other beneficials to your garden.
The event will take place on the Library’s main floor at 7:00 pm on October 29th. The free workshop is open to the public, with no registration required.
The presentation by BVVG’s Kate Donovan will also be recorded by Southborough Access Media.
The Library’s website is also promoting an educational resource on the Library’s grounds for people interested in the topic:
Did you know that the Southborough Library has a Native Plant Garden located off the parking lot? The Native Plant Garden was planted on the lawn and completed in June 2021 with funding from the Library Services & Technology Act (LSTA) distributed by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). Native plants help to ensure a healthy, biologically diverse landscape. Its overall appearance may look “messy” at certain times of the year. The nature of a Native Plant Garden is to leave it untended! Pollinators need us to keep the fallen leaves, browned stems, and bloomed flower buds during the cold and snowy months so that they can gather seeds, burrow, and nest.
