Donate your extra candy!

Neary is again collecting for care packages to college students who have aged out of the foster care system.

Is your household suffering from candy overload this morning? You can donate your excess candy to Neary School.

Don’t worry – they aren’t planning to give the 4-5th graders a massive sugar rush.

Neary is holding its annual collection drive for a cause. This year, the focus is on an organization they have been supporting since 2021 — Rise Above.

As Neary teacher Jen Turieo explained in a prior year:

Since 2004, Neary School students have collected Halloween candy which was then sent to soldiers stationed all over the world, donated to local food pantries, and last year, we donated the majority of the collected candy to a local group, Rise Above. Rise Above is an organization dedicated to providing Massachusetts children in foster care with enriching activities, opportunities, and experiences. One of the things they do is send College Care Packages to Massachusetts students who are in college but have aged out of the foster care system. Many of us have great memories from our college days of getting a message that a care package was waiting in the mail room, and your child’s candy donation will certainly help with those late-night study sessions.

If you know a Neary student, you can ask them to bring your donation in.

If you don’t have a kid to use for delivery, you can drop by during school hours (through Friday, November 8th) and ring the front bell. (The school is at 53 Parkerville Road.) Someone from the front office will be happy to collect your contributions.

As for those school hours. . . Note that today is a 1/2 day (Wellness Day), so Neary kids get out at 11:50 am. And Tuesday, November 5th (election day) is a Professional Development Day — with no school for students.
