It’s time for an update on Algonquin post-season sports.
ARHS Boys Cross Country came in 19th place out of 23 schools in the Central Division 1 State Meet of Champions on Saturday at Fort Devens. (For detailed results, click here.)
On Sunday, the Cheer team competed at the Central Regionals. They failed to qualify to move on to states. That followed Friday’s disappointment when Gonk Football lost its consolation game to St. John’s 42-28.
Both of those team will still hit the field one final time this fall. This will the first Thanksgiving Day game in the new GonkPlex stadium. (I’m guessing that will attract a good turnout from alumni returning home for the holiday.)
The annual Turkey Day rivalry match with Westborough will start at 10:00 am. You can purchase tickets here.
ARHS will be hoping to take back the Joe Mewhiney/Dick Walsh Trophy the Westborough Rangers won from them last year. This fall, Gonk has a 4-6 record versus Westborough’s 8-2 standing. The Titans were ranked #9 for MIAA Division 2 but lost the first round of the state playoffs. The Rangers were only #12 in Division 3 but made it to the Round of 8 before falling out of their playoffs.
