Southborough Recreation is holding its First Annual House Decorating Contest. Rec is encouraging everyone who lit up their homes or decorated their yards for the holidays to register — even those who didn’t go all out.
The department plans to use the info to create a community map. They hope it will make it easier for residents to figure out what streets/areas they can drive around and enjoy.
On December 1st, Rec posted to Facebook:
National Christmas Lights Day is on Sunday, December 1, 2024. It’s a day to celebrate the holiday season with lights and decorations. We’re excited to announce that Southborough is having a community-wide House Decorating Contest this year!
Do you think you have the brightest, most creative, and overall snazziest house in town? Register on our website to be part of this free event. A town-wide map will be shared on December 18th leading up to voting. Check back in for voting details.
All decorated homes are encouraged to register so people can drive around enjoy all of the festive houses this holiday season.
This week, they followed up to emphasize that registration isn’t just for the top contest contenders:
There are so many beautifully decorated homes around town. Don’t [let] the contest dim your light. Any decorated house should register. We’ll be creating a map of the entire town to share so people can drive around to enjoy ALL of the lit houses. The more homes that register, the better 🎄🏠
Updated (12/12/24 8:43 am): I forgot to include a link to where you can register! Click here. The page also notes some important details that I didn’t have. The deadline to register is Tuesday, December 17th. And, “Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place (along with bragging rights).”
Rec encourages:
Get creative, get outside, and get the WHOLE family involved. Homes will be judged on creativity, use of décor, and overall appearance.
All addresses will be made public so residents can view your displays!
A map will be released leading up to the voting.
