Last Thursday was the true kickoff for the Titans winter season, and it was a good one.
Both Algonquin Basketball teams won their season openers against Westborough that night. (You can read the Community Advocate’s coverage here.) The Boys won 46-38 on the Titans home court. The Girls traveled to beat the Rangers 70-20.
The same day, the Swim teams beat Nashoba in their opening meets. The Girls won 101-63 and the Boys 84-27.
Boys Ice Hockey wasn’t as triumphant in its Saturday season opener. They lost 5-2 to Auburn. This Wednesday night, they’ll face Westborough in the annual Borough`s Cup tournament. The four team tourney will be wrapped up on Saturday evening with a game vs Wachusett or Marlborough.
The Indoor Track teams competed on Saturday. Team members took part in the MSTCA’s annual Winter Festival (large schools division). Some highlights include 1st place finishes for Jonah Gould’s in the Boys 1 Mile and Tanvi Mehta in the Girls 600 Meters. Scoring second place were Arianna Gentile for the Girls Long Jump and Max Eigan for the Boys 55 Meters. Placing third were Jillian Belniak for the 55 Metres hurdles and the Girls 4×200 meter relay team. (You can find the full results here.)
Wrestling competed in a quad tournament at St. John’s on Saturday. I can’t find full results, but the 1st and 2nd place teams, St. John’s and Holliston, posted news of their wins over the Titans.
Tonight, Titans Girls Ice Hockey will play their opener. The co-op team is run through Algonquin with teammates from Hudson, Nashoba Regional, Marlborough and AMSA high schools. Over the weekend, the Community Advocate posted an interview with coaches and team members about how they’ll strive to unite and succeed this season. You can read that here.
Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week:

Updated (12/16/24 3:58 pm): My original Indoor Track highlights missed most of the impressive 1st-3rd place student accomplishments. (Apparently, I’d only seen the field results from the track and field competition.) And I discovered Community Advocate’s color commentary on the Boys Basketball win.
