Obituary: Scott Richard Thompson, 35

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Scott Richard Thompson of Hopedale, MA on December 16, 2024, at the age of 35 years. Born on December 14, 1989, in Park Ridge, Illinois to Peggy and Dick Thompson. The family moved from Illinois to Southborough, MA in 1998, where Scott and his brother, Ryan and sister, Megan attended the Southborough public schools and brother Sean, attended The New England Center for Children. Scott graduated from Worcester Academy and Southern New Hampshire University.

Scott was a sports enthusiast, especially loving football. Scott cheered on the Boston teams, Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox, but when it came to football, the Green Bay Packers were his team. Scott attended his first Packer’s game in Green Bay on 10-24-2004, he would call his best day.

Scott brought immense joy to our lives with his kindness, humor and love for family. He enjoyed discussing and debating world events and sports. Scott will be deeply missed but forever remembered and loved immensely.

Scott leaves behind his devoted mother, Peggy (Rafter) Thompson from Salem, NH, loving brothers, Ryan Thompson and his wife, Cristina from Hopedale, MA and Sean Thompson from Tewksbury, MA, adored sister Megan Thompson and her partner, Caitlin Cauley from Southampton, MA, and goddaughter niece Sophia Thompson. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dick Thompson in 2012, and grandparents John and Fern Rafter.

Scott will also be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His companion, Finley, nine-month-old golden retriever, missing his daily trips to the dog park with Scott.

Visiting hours Friday, December 27, 2024, from 4:00-7:00PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, MA 01772. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:30AM at St. Matthew Church, 105 Southville Rd., Southborough. Burial will follow at Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Rd., Southborough.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Scott’s memory to The Nashoba Learning Group, Nashobalearninggroup.org, 10 Oak Park Drive, Bedford, MA 01730. Scott’s brother Sean attends The Nashoba Learning Group Adult program for individuals with autism.
