School is on break, but high school sports aren’t. This week, most of Algonquin’s winter varsity teams are in competitions.
Three games in, Girls Basketball is undefeated this winter. Last week, the Gonk girls beat Marlborough 65-30 and Grafton 51-30. This weekend, they’ll play in Hopkinton’s Mary Korbey Girls Basketball 3v3 Tournament. Two of the games are set for Saturday, with Sunday’s games TBD.
Boys Basketball‘s record is now 2-1. Last week, they beat Marlborough 63-49 but lost to St. John’s 62-50.
Boys Ice Hockey‘s record is also 2-1. They lost the first round of the Borough`s Cup to Westborough 4-3 on Wednesday. But they did score their first season win in the consolation game on Saturday, beating Marlborough 4-1.
Girls Ice Hockey only managed to squeeze in one game before today. Their faceoff with the Haverhill/Pentucket /North Andover team ended in a 2-2 tie. (As of posting this story, their second game should be in progress.)
For Boys and Girls Indoor Track, no results were posted for their CMass meet at Shrewsbury (which also included Hudson, Marlborough, and Nashoba.) The teams also performed in the MSTCA Speed Classic. You can find those full competition results here. They’ll be competing in more annual tournaments this weekend.
Girls Swimming lost its meet against Bromfield last week 97-81 but beat Grafton/Northbridge 89-0. Boys Swimming also lost to Bromfield (85-79) and lost to Grafton/Northbridge 93-72. Results aren’t posted for either team’s scheduled meets vs Gardner last Thursday.
Gymnastics lost its first regular meet against Westborough by just less than a point, 135.8-136.5.
I couldn’t find any posted results for Wrestling‘s meet vs Marlborough last Wednesday or its participation in a 10 school tournament on Saturday.
