This morning, the Superintendent’s office and the Town posted that the Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee Meeting scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. The meeting was meant to be the regular monthly meeting of the committee for Algonquin Regional High School.
The planned agenda had featured a presentation by the Science Department. I’m waiting for word on when the meeting will be rescheduled to (and why it was suddenly cancelled). I will update this post if I learn more.
It is worth noting that the agenda included the presentation of a revised preliminary budget for the next fiscal year. The committee was also scheduled to meet with the Select Board and Advisory Committee to discuss the budget during the boards’ Budget Summit as they work towards a final overall budget to bring to Annual Town Meeting in April.
[Editor’s Note: According to a comment by Select Board Chair Kathy Cook, the school budget discussion is getting pushed to February and no longer part of the upcoming Budget Summit.]*
That meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th at 9:00 am in the Public Safety Building’s training room. (Currently, that is not scheduled to include remote participation or streaming.)
Updated (1/15/25 12:34 pm): I’m told that there was an increase in the number of members who reported they can’t make tonight’s meeting (due to illnesses), resulting in not being able to make quorum.
The Superintendent’s office is trying to reschedule the meeting for next Wednesday, January 22nd. But that date hasn’t been confirmed yet, so stay tuned.
*Updated (1/15/25 1:58 pm): Although the schools’ budget is on the agenda for the Budget Summit, Select Board Kathy Cook posted a comment updating that it will be changing. The schools need to finalize their new bus/transportation contract for the next school year first. The budget discussion with the Select Board and Advisory will be postponed to February.
The schools will not be presenting their proposed budgets at the “budget summit “. They need to get the new bus contract done first. They will instead present budgets to SB and Advisory Board in February.
