Assabet Valley Mastersingers is reaching out to our community again to encourage “talented vocalists” who “value high artistic standards” to join them at an “open rehearsal” this month.
Back in November, AVM shared an invitation as they began preparing for their March 16th concert, a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah. (You can read more about that here.)
Now they are inviting interested singers to join them at their rehearsal the next day as they prepare for their May 3rd concert featuring contemporary works. (Read about that here.)
The rehearsal will take place Monday, March 17th from 7:30 – 9:45 pm. The group is seeking “vocalists of all age groups and cultural backgrounds!”
Their announcement describes “a community of welcoming, inclusive, respectful, collegial, and talented vocalists”. It further explains:
We believe singing fosters an environment of fun, joy, and worth. While vocal training is not essential, basic musicianship, a good musical ear, and a dedication and love for the choral classics are a must for AVM vocalists.
They invite:
Interested vocalists (18+) are invited to attend an AVM Open Rehearsal to get a sense of how regular rehearsals are run and of the group itself. Come early so that you can meet the Membership Chair, Deb Wallace, and section leaders, and get music for rehearsal.
After the rehearsal, if you decide to pursue joining the chorus, you will need to schedule an audition through the Membership Chair. Prior to the audition singers are asked to:
prepare a piece to provide the Artistic Director with a sense of your voice qualities.
The March 17th and subsequent rehearsals are held in Shrewsbury at First Congregational Church (19 Church Road).

The announcement also promotes opportunities for high school and college students to sing with them through “pre-membership programs”:
High School Juniors and Seniors, please look into the AVM Apprentice Singer Program.
College Students please look into the AVM Collegiate Vocalist Program.
AVM isn’t the only regional chorus that recruits members from Southborough. You can read about other area singing groups here.
