The APTO (Algonquin Parent Teacher Organization) is asking for families of Algonquin juniors to show their support for the “Junior Post Prom Party” (JPPP).

This year’s, rebooted free event will take place at Apex Entertainment. One of the many popular activities students will enjoy is bowling. As a fundraiser, the APTO is encouraging families to help “Light up the Lanes” by sponsoring a message to be displayed over the alley.

Their message invites:

How Can You Celebrate the Junior Class and Show Your Support?
Have your family’s name and a personalized message displayed on the big screen in the bowling alley, all night long, for a $100 donation!

Your generosity will help us create a memorable, safe, and fun night where students can continue the celebration with friends after prom. Spots are limited, so don’t wait!

Support requires two steps. One is making the donation. (You can do that here, but be sure to write in the memo field “JPPP Bowling Alley Donation”.) The second is signing up with your message through SignUpGenius here.

What’s the JPPP, and why is it changing?

For decades, the APTO put on an overnight JPPP to help make the night a safe celebration for Gonk students. The event began almost immediately after prom and locked-in students until 5:00 am.

To incentivize attendance, the free party was jam packed with fun activities (like Mechanical Bull Riding, ice skating, a hypnotist, a DJ, and arcade games) plus a ton of food. But in recent years, attendance had flagged (and it appeared to be a growing challenge to recruit enough non-junior parents to chaperone).

Last year, the APTO conducted a survey to get juniors’ feedback on the event and their interest. Based on the responses and logistics, they decided not to put on a JPPP in 2024.

This year, its being relaunched to address one of the reasons that appeared to be behind the declining event interest. Apparently, many students were too pooped to party by the end of a long night that ran to 5:00 am. (I’m guessing that was also an issue for recruiting chaperones.)

This year, the event will begin right after prom again on May 17th, but is abbreviated to end at 2:00 am (three hours shorter). The revamped party will take place at Apex Entertainment.

On the sponsorship sign up page, the APTO pitches that the sponsorships will help them:

throw an epic, safe, and unforgettable post-prom celebration—giving our students a night full of fun, friends, and memories that will last a lifetime!
