Yesterday, Algonquin celebrated seniors who secured commitments to play in college Division 1-3 athletics next year. The event, which took place during Women’s History month, appeared to be an all girl affair.
(Plus, I have an update on Gonk Girls Indoor Track.)
Back in November, 14 seniors participated in a Recognition Day event signed papers committing to college teams. Only two girls were on the list.
On Monday, the list of committed female athletes grew with the addition of five more players.
- Volleyball — Katy O’Connell, Skidmore College
- Rugby
- Gaby Lomuto, Mount St. Mary’s College (D1)
- Niamh McLaughlin, Sacred Heart University (D1)
- Basketball — Brooke Adams, Wesleyon University
- Field Hockey — Meredith Wu, M.I.T.
Here is a larger version of the photo that ARHS posted on Instagram from the event.

I’ll also update that the parent shared the list of athletes/teams listed as competing in the Indoor Track National Championships. It includes a relay team from the Titans Girls Indoor Track team. They will send four runners to compete in the 1600 meter sprint medley relay.
(As, I previously posted, the Boys team will also be sending runners for that event, plus Miles Lipka will compete in the Pentathlon.)
The New Balance Nationals event is scheduled for this Thursday through Sunday in Boston. You can learn more here.
