A week from tomorrow, Southborough’s Phaea Crede will host a special story time at the Southborough Library.
She’ll be reading her newest picture book. According to her website, it’s “An entertaining tale with an affirming message for introverts”.
The “Author Talk” is scheduled for Thursday, April 24th from 11:00 – 11:45 am in the the Children’s Room.
The visit will include activities and Crede’s reading of Oh Deer!, which was launched on April 1st.
Crede’s website describes the story of a sometimes lonely sasquatch who likes to garden:
But one morning, just as the turnips are almost ready for harvest . . . disaster! Hungry deer have swooped in to eat Jasper’s garden! Clever Jasper comes up with a way to thwart these turnip thieves. But as it turns out, the deer are even more clever. Though Jasper tries more and more ways to keep his veggies safe, nothing seems to work.
Then the situation changes, and someone special needs some help. Maybe a little company isn’t such a bad thing.
Kirkus Reviews writes:
Crede walks a fine line, depicting Jasper not as a cranky misanthrope but as a thoughtful creature who simply needs time to himself to recharge. Many youngsters will appreciate seeing a quiet protagonist portrayed heroically.
Some families may remember Crede, from her 2022 story time, as the lady with the pizza dress. Back then her program focused on her children’s graphic novel Super Pizza & Kid Kale.
Based on an Instagram post from her recent launch party at Word on the Street in Marlborough, expect Crede to be decked out in very different, but still fun, attire in honor of Oh Deer!:
