NSPAC holding series of talks for parents, including the “Importance of Self-Care” (Updated)

As I previously shared, NSPAC invited parents to learn how to “Build Executive Function Skills” in their kids. Today, I learned about more upcoming talks coordinated by the volunteer group. It includes another talk this month and two more in February.

In addition to evening parent talks, the Northborough/Southborough Special Education Advisory Committee is inviting experts to its regular monthly morning meetings.

Here is a list of the upcoming NSPAC events this school year:

Wednesday, January 9, 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Northborough Library, 34 Main St

Meet Michael Delman, author of “Your Kid’s Gonna be Okay: Building the Executive Function Skills your Child needs in the Age of Attention.” (See dedicated post for a reminder of the details.)

Wednesday, January 23, 10:00 am, Northborough Library, 34 Main St:

NSPAC Meeting* featuring the ‘Importance of Self-Care for Parents’ presented by June David-Fors, Director of Northborough Family and Youth Services.

Wednesday, February 6, 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Northborough Library, 34 Main St:

Meet Deborah Vlock, author of “Parenting Children with Mental Health Challenges: A Guide to Life with Emotionally Complex Kids.” Deborah offers overwhelmed readers guidance, solidarity, and hope. The author, a “mental-health mom” who’s survived indignity, exhaustion, and the heartbreak of loving a child with multiple mental-health disorders, writes with frankness and occasional humor about the hardest parenting job on earth. Drawing on her own experiences and those of other parents, plus tips from mental health professionals, Vlock suggests ways of parenting smarter, partnering better, and living more fully and less fearfully in the shadow of childhood psychiatric illness. Books will be available for sale.
