Southborough and Northborough Conservation commissions have teamed up to hold an art contest. Art appreciation may seem outside their missions. But the focus of the contest is right up their alleys.
The “Earth Day Poster Contest” will encourage youth to think about related conservation issues including sustainability, recycling, trees, and water. The contest is billed as “1st Annual” with a specific theme for this year – “Protect Our Species”.
The contest is open to kids starting at age 0 through teens in high school. (I have to admit, it may be “agist” of me, but I’m doubtful that I’d be impressed by a poster submitted by a 0 year old.)
Finger painting tots won’t be pitted against 18 year olds. Art will be judged by school or age:
One prize will be picked from each school in the Northborough and Southborough school districts (home-schooled children encouraged to apply and will be grouped in appropriate age group)
Posters should be “hand drawn” on standard letter sized paper, 8½” x 11″.
On the back of your paper, please have the following information labeled clearly:
-Name & age
-Grade & school
-Phone number and/or email to be notified at if you are a WINNER!
(Please include the applicable guardian name if using their information)
Submissions are due on April 27th, the Earth Day Cleanup Day in both towns. You can pass in your poster in person at the event that day. (Click here for details on the event.)
Or, you can submit your poster in advance to one of the towns’ Conservation Agents. You can mail in your poster or drop it by the office. In Southborough, that’s:
