The big win in Algonquin sports this week was courtesy the hybrid Westborough Rangers/ARHS T-Hawks team. The team posted to Facebook:
Congratulations to the Westborough/Algonquin girls today for taking 1st place in the inaugural Central Massachusetts Girls Golf Tournament. Haley Lee-Burke took individual honors shooting an 83.
You can read about that victory here. (But I have to be honest, I don’t know if any of the mentioned players actually hail from Algonquin.)
ARHS Softball hasn’t been having nearly as good a season and racked up yet another loss last Friday. But it was a good game for one of its players. The athletic department tweeted:
Congratulations Mia McAuliffe on becoming the 3rd softball player in ARHS history to join the 100 Hit Club!!
Last week, I shared Gonk athletes who made the Telegram’s All-Star teams for winter sports. Not to be outdone, Metrowest Daily News posted its selections.
There were five Algonquin athletes honored as MWDN All-Stars who hadn’t been included on the Telegram’s lists:
- Girls Indoor Track – Tess Reyes, senior
- Boys Ice Hockey – Nolan Kimball, senior
- Boys Indoor Track – Alex Lemieux, senior
There were also two athletes that made both lists, but who I accidentally left out of last week’s post:
- Wrestling – Shea Garand, senior and Andrew Goddard, senior
The Daily News teams appeared to have shorter rosters than the Telegram’s, so didn’t include as many Algonquin athletes. Here are the other T-Hawks who made their cut:
- Gymnastics – Lizzy Debroczy, freshman and Tessa McAndrews, freshman
- Boys Indoor Track – Matthew Madamba, senior
- Girls Hockey – Kerryn O’Connell, sophomore
- Boys Swimming – Ray Cerro, senior
- Skiing – Kaitlyn Desio, sophomore
