Chestnut Hill Farm’s culinary themed How to classes (Updated)

Updated (7/17/19 5:33 pm): Editor’s Note: I was informed that the farm needs to cancel all but the last class. Make your own pizza ovens is still on for September. The other three classes that were slated for the summer are being indefinitely postponed with hopes to put them on this fall or sometime next spring/summer.

So disregard the first three classes!

In addition to offering dinners on the farm, Chestnut Hill Farm is offering classes for people who want to improve their dining experiences at home. The how-to classes cover pairings, “No-Cook” cooking, charcoal grilling, and making your own outdoor oven.

Four classes are scheduled for next week through September. Pre-registration is required for all of the following events and space is limited.*

Gals who Grill from TTOR websiteGals Who Grill: An Outdoor Cooking Class – Thursday, August 15, 6:00 – 8:30 pm (register here)

Ladies, start your grills! Leaving the kitchen behind and getting out on the grill is the best way to cook in warm weather. Join a local, professional chef for an outdoor, hands-on grilling class designed for women who want to learn how to grill on charcoal.

Way beyond cranking up the gas for burgers and dogs, we’ll cover how to light a grill effectively, how to build a two-zone fire, and how to make the most of your grill’s heat. You’ll cook a three-course meal entirely on the grill as you make flatbreads, a big platter of grilled meat and vegetables, and a simple dessert with grilled fruit. At the end of the class, you’ll dine on your grilled creations as you enjoy the sunset on the farm. Come discover the joy of outdoor cooking!

Build your own Backyard Pizza Oven from TTOR websiteBuild Your Own Backyard Pizza Oven – Tuesday, September 24, 10:00 – 4:00 pm (register here) – Limited to 10 students

Build your own backyard pizza oven!?!? You read that right! Come to this ultimate DIY experience with stone and brick master, Martin Pearson, who will demonstrate how to build a backyard oven and cook pizza in it.

During this day-long, outdoor hands-on experience, learn how to set up a cement disk, build a sand dome, cover it with stiff clay, start a fire, dry out the clay dome, and then cook the pizza in the built oven. At the end, you’ll enjoy eating while marveling at the wonderful masterpiece created. One lucky participant will take the oven home.
