The public is invited to weigh in as the Town considers the possibility of “naming” rooms in the new combined police and fire station.
The Board of Selectmen asked the Public Safety Building Committee to be involved in the public process. The committee is now putting out the word to recruit nominations:
At the request of the Board of Selectmen, the Public Safety Building Committee is seeking nominations for the naming of the following areas within the new Public Safety Building:
1) Training/Public Meeting Room
2) Dispatch Center, and
3) Fire Training Tower.Per the Board of Selectmen Policy on Naming Town Facilities, the criteria for nominations is as follows:
Town facilities are generally named for either persons or places. Names of people to be considered must meet the criteria listed.
• Individual must have attained prominence locally or nationally;
• Individual must have made a significant contribution to the community;
• Name must lend prestige and status to the facility.Criteria for names of places to be considered include geographic location and/or historical relevance.
Nominations may be for persons that are living or deceased.
Nominations must be presented in a brief, two-paragraph statement containing:
• Biographical/historical data
• Reasons justifying the choiceNominations should be submitted no later than November 7th at 5 PM through the Committee’s Chair. Nominations can be sent via e-mail (preferred) to jmalinowski@southboroughma.com or via postal mail to Public Safety Building Committee, 17 Common Street, Southborough, MA 01772.
Nominations should include the name and contact information for the nominator.
All nominations will be considered by the Public Safety Building Committee at an open public meeting on Tuesday November 12th at 6:30 PM in the Training Room at the Public Safety Building. Nominators are welcome, but not required, to attend this meeting. The Committee will then submit up to three names for each space to the Board of Selectmen for consideration at one of their public meetings.
