Earlier this month, I shared news that the Boroughs Loop Trail opened, linking Southborough with neighboring Towns. But both of the opening celebrations took place outside of town. So, I’m happy to share that for the next two Saturdays guided hikes will be in Southborough.
The Southborough Trails Committee asked me to share their news. The first hike will be on a trail that is also open for unguided hikes. The second is a sneak peak at a future segment.
The events are free and open to the public. But, for planning purposes, the committee is asking people to pre-register. Hikers are asked to show up 15 minutes early to each event, so they can hit the trail on time.
Here is the information on the first event, this weekend:
Southborough Boroughs Loop Trail Guided Hike#1, Sat. 10/19 at 2:00 PM
Join the Southborough Trails Committee for this 3-mile guided hike on a section of the Boroughs Loop Trail that is also part of the Bay Circuit Trail. The hike will be led by Bill Fadden, Regional Representative of the Bay Circuit Alliance, on Saturday, October 19th, at 2:00 PM. Parking is alongside Thomas Drive at the intersection of Pleasant street (Rt.30) (Framingham).

The hike is open to everyone, but those who aren’t steady on their feet, might find it a bit too much. The event page details:
The initial 1/2 mile of the hike is a primitive trail with uneven tread. Some sections of the trail are less maintained than others and may require walking around/over downed trees, or through brush. If you’re up for a little adventure and don’t mind a 1/2 mile of a slightly rugged trail, then this is the hike for you. Once past the Fayville Dam, just beyond the intersection with Clemmons and Nichols Street, the trail opens up to a wide access road with scenic views of the Sudbury Reservoir.

The next hike should be easier walking. As an additional plus, the hike offers an exclusive preview of a yet-to-be-opened section of the loop.
But it comes with some restrictions. Because of its proximity to the reservoir, dogs aren’t allowed. And since DCR will be allowing deer bow hunting on the property – hikers need to wear a bright orange hat or vest.
Southborough Boroughs Loop Trail Guided Hike#2, Sat. 10/26 at 9:00 AM
Join the Southborough Trails Committee and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) for a guided hike on a future section of the Boroughs Loop Trail, Saturday, October 26th at 9:00 AM.
The hike will be led by DCR Ranger, Andy Leahy, on a future section of the Boroughs Loop Trail that is not yet open to the public. We invite you to take this opportunity to get a “sneak peek” and check out the soon-to-be trail in town. The trail overlaps an existing access path, has a hard-packed surface, and a wide corridor. The section of the trail we will be hiking is just under 3 miles round trip. The hike will begin at the Fayville Park on Central Street in Southborough.
