I know that Sunday brought tragic news for basketball fans.* But as of Saturday, Algonquin Boys Basketball was having a great week. The team lost one out of its three games, but its second win was an especially sweet one. It took place on the Celtic’s court. Wicked Local wrote:
It was the third year in a row that the Tomahawks have played in the Good Sports (now Andrew Lawson Foundation) Invitational at the TD Garden in Boston and for the third year in a row, Algonquin came out victorious with a thrilling 50-49 victory over Somerville. (read more)
Sports journalist Ethan Winter tweeted several videos, including this example of teamwork:

The Boys record is now improved to 7-5. ARHS Girls Basketball didn’t fare as well. The team suffered two more losses, lowering their record to 3-9.
Girls Indoor Track ended their season on a high note with a win over Leominster. They then went on to compete at MSTCA Coaches Invitational where one runner, Julia Kardos, already qualified for state. Boys Indoor Track lost to Leominster, ending the season with a 0-4 record. But the school tweeted pride in runners’ performances at the invitational. Both teams compete in the League meet this Saturday.
Girls Ice Hockey experienced its first tie of the season, against Franklin. That brings their record to 6-1-3. Boys Ice Hockey is at 4-7-2 following another win and loss.
T-Hawks Gymnastics held on to its undefeated status by beating Marlborough at Saturday’s meet, 141.4 – 136.5.
Swim and Dive teams’ status didn’t change since they didn’t have any meets last week. Their great rankings will be put to the test at this week’s Mid-Wach League Championships.
Looking back to fall sports, Daily News finished posting its All-Stars. Several Algonquin athletes made the lists:
- Football – junior Rio Ferguson
- Girls Soccer – seniors Lucy Gauvin and Taylor Moore
- Boys Soccer – junior Carsten Boloz
- Boys Cross Country – junior William Lamburn and senior Charlie McLarnon
- Girls Cross Country – senior Karmyn Shreeve

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week.
