If you don’t know that it’s Super Tuesday, you’ve really gone out of your way to block out political news. Still, in case you need the details on what the deal is in Southborough, here is a reminder.
Voting takes place for all three precincts from 6:30 am – 8:00 pm at Trottier Middle School’s Gym, 49 Parkerville Road.
If you are registered with one of four parties you can vote – but only on that party’s ballot. If you are one of the 60% of voters in Town that is unenrolled, you can choose which ballot to vote on.
So who’s on the ballots? More candidates than are still in the race
Democratic ballot
Be careful not to waste your vote. While 15 Presidential candidates are listed, only 5 are still officially running. Those are: Biden, Bloomberg, Gabbard, Sanders and Warren. (If you haven’t been following recent developments, Klobuchar, Buttiegieg and Steyers dropped out over the past couple of days.)
(There are also uncontested candidates for the state and Town party committees on the ballot.)
Republican ballot
Three candidates are listed, but only William Weld is still officially running against President Trump. Some Republicans may assume that outcome is pre-determined, so there’s no reason to bother with their primary. But there is a contest at the state party committee level.
Three candidates are competing to represent the Middlesex & Worcester District. To help you make an informed vote, I included links below to each candidate’s campaign social media account:
State Committee Man (Vote for 1)
- Brian P. Burke (Incumbent)
- Dean Cavaretta
- Paul R. Ferro
State Committee Woman (Vote for 1)
The Libertarian Party ballot
10 candidates are listed as running for the Oval Office, though Kim Ruff has apparently pulled out. (No contested committee positions.)
Green-Rainbow Party ballot
4 candidates will run for Chief Executive. (No contested committee positions.)
Updated (3/2/20 5:26 pm): This afternoon, Amy Klobuchar joined the list of dropouts from the Democratic race.
Beth,
Amy Klobuchar also dropped out today, so there is another person that is on the ballot but isn’t running anymore.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I was busy this afternoon and missed that news! (I scheduled this post prior to her announcement.)
