Schools surveying teachers, parents, and students on remote learning experience

The Northborough and Southborough Public Schools planned to issue a survey this week on NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0. Given how late in April it is, that was clearly based on likelihood that students wouldn’t return to school May 4th. With the news that they won’t be returning at all this spring, it’s even more important to evaluate how remote learning is working.

This morning, Superintendent Gregory Martineau sent a message to parents asking them to complete the survey.

The survey only allows one grade to be identified for a student. Parents of multiple students are asked to complete one per child. Answering a question I had about that, Martineau also recommended that each parent/guardian complete the survey separately.

Questions coer how much time students are spending on assignments each day, how hard it is for students and families to manage NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0, challenges, recommendations, and more.

This morning’s messaged (below) confirms that they are also seeking feedback from teachers and students:

On Tuesday, April 21, 2020, Governor Baker extended his order to close all Massachusetts public schools through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I’m confident that I’m not alone in wishing that the COVID-19 Health Situation was different and that students, faculty, and staff would be able to end the academic year with a sense of normalcy. However, what is most important is our collective health and well-being. On behalf of the District, I want to recognize the unprecedented ask that is being made by our students, faculty, staff, and families and express our appreciation for the school community in partnering with the District on making the best of challenging times.

What is now certain is that remote learning (NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0) will continue for the remainder of the year. As an educational community, the final few months are typically a time of significant learning, assessing students’ progress, planning for student transitions, and celebrating successes. For the past couple of weeks, District and school-based leaders have been engaged in discussions to develop alternative plans to continue this important work; these plans will now be formalized.

As we look beyond the original May 4, 2020, return date, it is important to receive family feedback on the District’s remote learning plan, NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0. I am asking that you take a few minutes to complete the Family NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0 Survey. In addition to family feedback, our students, faculty, and staff are being asked to share their input. This feedback is essential as the District calibrates and makes adjustments to NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0.

I have no doubt that with Governor Baker’s recent announcement that there will be additional questions from transition planning, implications for students receiving special education and/or English Learners, the retrieval of personal items, and safe reopening protocols. As a District, we will work to provide answers. If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher, building administrator, or me with specific questions or concerns.

Parents and guardians should check their emails for the message with the link.

Hello,
I am a technology integration coach from a district in Illinois. We are looking at surveying our parents and students regarding their experiences with remote learning and planning for the future. Would you mind sharing your questionnaire with me? Thank you.
