Next week, parents and teens are encouraged to hear from a young man in recovery for an opioid addiction. The online event is clearly meant to help other families avoid the “black hole”:
Cole has struggled with substance use since his early teenage years. He will share his journey from the stages of experimentation and self-medication with gateway drugs to a crippling opioid addiction. He will describe life on the street and facing death and his challenging road to recovery. Now a young adult, Cole is working and celebrating eight months of sobriety.
The free talk will be held on Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 pm.
“Living on the Edge of a Black Hole: Youth and Addiction” is offered through a partnership between Southborough Youth and Family Services, Northborough Southborough Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, and Southborough resident, pediatrician Dr. Safdar Medina.
Dr. Medina will introduce Cole and ask him questions in a Q&A style conversation.
Registration allows for participants ages 12 and older. Signup is through the Southborough Recreation website. Participants will be emailed login information for the zoom session.
The event ties in nicely with the Beautiful Boy book club series being held by SYFS with the Southborough Library. Participants in that weekly zoom session are invited to participate in the session along with the rest of the public.
