Above: Another poster contest is one way that the public is invited to celebrate Earth Day this spring.
Southborough and Northborough Conservation Commissions have again teamed up to hold an Earth Day poster contest for children and teens.
Youth are invited to submit hand drawn posters related to Earth Day topics (sustainability, recycling, trees, water, etc.) or this year’s Earth Day theme “Restore Our Earth”. Judging will be based on creativity in relation to those topics.
The opportunity is for children and teens “age 0 – grade 12”. (Though, I’d be pretty surprised if a 0 year old won.)
Prizes will be awarded by schools/age groups. Confused by wording on the flyer, I checked in with Southborough Conservation Agent Melissa Danza.
She confirmed that though it refers to district schools and home schooled students – younger children and residents of either town that attend private schools are also welcome to participate.
This is just the first event I’m promoting that revolves around Earth Day. I’m expecting to share many others in the coming weeks.
Last year was the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. A lot of community groups had special plans that were halted due to the pandemic. This year, they hope to make up for the lost opportunity by holding special events. So, stay tuned for more announcements.
