The Northborough Southborough Eagles Youth Rugby program is promoting registration for 2021 for its Middle School aged co-ed program. They also announced a new partnership with a nearby program for younger players – starting this Saturday.
Eagles Youth Rugby for middle schoolers
Organizers shared:
We are hoping to compete in tournaments around the Boston and Worcester area covid restrictions permitting. As you know in our very first season we became Massachusetts State Champions despite most of our players never having experienced the game before. Our philosophy is that if you have fun you will succeed and we have no cuts, everyone is welcome and encouraged to take part. Our season begins May 16th at Trottier middle school and we will practice Sundays 10-12 and Thursdays 6-8pm.
The season is promoted as running through July 31st. The cost for the season is $170.
While players will have to adhere to some restrictions and safety protocols due to Covid, they are returning to contact play. (Last summer, they were only able to offer “non-contact touch”.)
On Facebook, the group encouraged players to register quickly in hopes of putting in shirt orders soon.
This year, registration is through Mass Youth Rugby’s registration vendor (SportLoMo) instead of Southborough Rec. Participants should register through the link on the Eagles’ website. The website also provides more details on this year’s safety restrictions.
Neighboring K-6 Rugby Rookies Program
In other developments, Eagles is now collaborating with the New England Rugby Club based in Hopkinton. The group has a rugby program for elementary school aged children. An Eagles representative wrote:
Like us they accept kids from all towns, of all abilities and are coed and they have agreed to work as a feeder to our middle school program.
If you have elementary school aged children interested in rugby, you can learn more about the program and sign up through Hopkinton Rec here. That season starts this Saturday, April 17th. It runs on Saturdays through May 29th, at a cost of $185. (To learn more about New England Rugby Club you can view their website and Facebook page.)
