The Southborough Senior Center issued its July/August newsletter. It’s full of in-person fun, including the long-awaited return of a bus trip.
For some of these events, you’ll want to sign up soon, but not today. Registration for all of the July and August events opens this Thursday, July 1, at 10:00 am. (Registration instructions are on the bottom of the first page of the newsletter.)
Those who have enjoyed the virtual options will be happy to hear that a new session of Stretch Break, Strength Training, and Seated Chair Yoga will be offered. Classes will run over zoom July through most of August.
Those who have been itching to get back into in-person fun will be happy to hear that Mah Jongg, Canasta, and Pool Room hours are back. (The Bocce league isn’t back yet, but if you’re interested you could help make that happen.)*
Special, limited events likely to fill up quickly are:
- July 21 – Heart to Home Meals is offering a free Grab nā Go lunch (curbside pickup of frozen healthy meals)
- July 28 – Lunch on the Lawn with Musician/Singer and acoustic guitar player P.E. James
- August 12 – an outdoor BBQ lunch, featuring Travelin’ Bones Food Truck.
- August 27 – a bus trip to Plainridge Casino and Race Track.
Also back this summer is the use of the center’s “movie theater” to watch a Netflix series. This summer, they’ll be screening The Queen’s Gambit over 4 weeks. (Lunch will be held during an intermission the first three weeks and after the series finale on the final day.)
The center is also offering another summer of boating over at Hopkinton State Park. The meet ups will take place Tuesday mornings in July and/or August. Seniors can take advantage of the discounted opportunity to kayak, paddle board, or peddle board for an hour. There’s a maximum of 8 participants per session, so pre-registration is required.
For details on the above events and more news, read the newsletter here.
*The newsletter advertises that the Senior Center is looking for a new volunteer to lead the Bocce Court League.
