The National Weather Service is predicting a high “heat index” of 102º in Southborough this afternoon and 99º tomorrow afternoon. In response, the Town of Southborough is encouraging those who need a place to escape the heat to head to one of its facilities today and tomorrow. (Thank goodness municipal buildings reopened this summer!)

Cordaville Hall (9 Cordaville Road), also the site of the Senior Center, will be the official cooling center. However, those hours are only from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. Fortunately, the Southborough Library is also open, and its hours are from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Here is the official announcement from the Board of Health:

Heat Advisory flyerWith temperatures anticipated to reach heat indexes from 95-105 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued heat warnings. The town will open its cooling center to provide relief from the heat.

People should continue to take extra precautions working or spending time outside. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.

As a reminder, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Car interiors can reach incredibly high temperatures in a matter of minutes. Check on your neighbors and loved ones, as well.

The Cooling Center will be open at the following location:

  • Cordaville Hall (Senior Center)(9 Cordaville Road; open 08:30 AM to 3:00 PM) Open to all ages, please check in with the front desk so they know you are there to get away from the heat!

Another unofficial option that has air conditioning is the Southborough library open 10AM-6PM
