Another truck crash on I-495

It’s been a bad week for trucks on I-495. For the second time in just four days, the Southborough Fire Department responded to a truck crash on I-495 south. Here are the details from the fire department:

Engine 23 and Ambulance 28 were dispatched at 10:53 AM, and arrived in the southbound lane of I-495 just south of the Northborough Road overpass to find a tractor trailer jackknifed across three lanes of the highway leaking diesel fuel. The driver, who received minor injuries, was transported to Marlborough Hospital. The crew of Engine 23 worked to contain an estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel which spilled onto the highway when one of the truck’s fuel tanks ruptured. The moderate snowfall helped crews in containing the diesel fuel.

The Massachusetts State Police maintained one open lane while the release was contained. Massachusetts Department of Transportation (DOT), Ted’s of Fayville Towing, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection responded as assisted at the scene. I-495 southbound was restricted to one lane for several hours.

While Southborough Fire/EMS personnel were tied up with the incident, a motor vehicle crash occurred on Route 9 Westbound at Route 85, with injuries. A Hopkinton Fire Department ambulance responded to that scene at 11:35 AM and transported one injured driver to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham.

Southborough Fire personnel cleared I-495 at 2:29 PM when the incident scene was turned over to Mass DEP.
