While I was working on a post about an upcoming Algonquin musical event, I learned another bit of musical news worth sharing.
Jazz Night – March 1st
On the Tuesday after break Algonquin will hold its annual Jazz Night. The program brings together the high school jazz players with jazz bands from Trottier and Melican middle schools.
As usual, they will feature a guest performer. This year, trombonist George Murphy will be working with the students. Murphy is band leader of Horns in the House.
You can get a preview of Murphy’s talent and ability to jam with students through the video below. According to Foxborough Cable Access, when he retired from teaching in Foxborough in 2014, he was invited onstage for the FHS Jazz Festival:
Attending the event is free to members of the Northboro Southborough Music Association. For the general public, the cost $5 per adult and $3/child/senior.
All State Music Festival – March 5
Today, Gonk.Arts posted news of another trombonist, plus two singers and a viola player:
Congratulations to these students, who were selected after an extensive audition process, to participate in the 2022 All-State Music Festival. These students will attend all-day rehearsal on Wednesday, March 2nd and will perform alongside other amazing musicians from across Massachusetts in a concert at Symphony Hall on March 5th. Bravo!
The students are Maria Nagaria (voice), Hannah O’Grady (voice), Greg Rouniantsev (trombone), and Emil Tran (viola).
