Algonquin Girls Hockey will be playing for the State Division 2 Championship at the home of the Bruins this weekend.
The Titans scored a dramatic win over Medfield in their Final Four game last night.
Based on the Telegram’s coverage and Algonquin Athletics’ tweets, Mallory Farrell scored the first goal of the night in the first period.
The game got intense after Medfield tied up in the second period and scored a third goal in the final period with 8:53 left on the clock. The Telegram wrote:
With its season on the brink, Algonquin struggled to generate scoring opportunities for nearly five minutes.
At least until Farrell gave her team new life.
Skating with the puck up the left boards and into the Medfield zone, Farrell whipped a wrister on net from the faceoff circle. Her left-handed shot somehow found the left corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2 with 2:53 remaining in regulation.
In overtime, playing 4 on 4:
With the ice opened up a bit, [Emily Johns] collected a tip from teammate Bryn Domolky and rushed through center ice before entering the Medfield zone.
The Clinton High sophomore then snuck the puck between a defender’s legs, collected it and fired a shot past the glove side of the Medfield goalie to secure a ticket to TD Garden for the co-op Algonquin squad.
ARHS tweeted a video clip of the exciting moment:

The Telegram’s story also included some fun facts, like the teams’ use of Niki Manaj as an inspiration. (Which explains some Jones’ pics at their prior game that I found puzzling!) It also shared that Farrell was playing with a fever last night. You can read that all here.
This Sunday, March 20th, #10 ARHS will challenge upper seed Canton at TD Garden, time TBD.
While Canton entered the tourney #9, they took out top seed Duxbury 3-0 in the Round of 8 and beat #5 Natick 2-1 in their Final Four last night.
Ticket info isn’t posted yet for the big game. But I’m confident that ARHS Athletics will tweet details when it’s available. You can check here.
Updated (3/18/22 2:12 pm): The game is set for 1:00 pm and tickets can be purchased through ticketmaster here. (It looks like the added fees are less than $1 on the $15 ticket.)
