Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this week.

Monday, April 4, 2022

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center, see newsletter. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Indoor Grab & Go Seed Launch (10:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: The launch of patrons being able to come into the Library to check out seeds from the repurposed card catalogue. For details, see related post.
  • Stretch Break Class for seniors (10:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: For details on weekly class, see newsletter.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required.
  • Youth Writing Club (3:30 -4:30 pm) @ zoom: The Southborough Library is hosting this virtual creative writing club for ages 10-18. The zoom sessions are a fun and supportive space to get creative and build skills with peers. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Spring Heathy Eating (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ zoom: The free Wellness Series for ages 12+ is offered by the Southborough Library and Jill Vroman Fitness & Wellness. This session: Have a laugh and cook seasonal foods that will help with digestion and improve your gut biome. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Parent Support Group (12:30 -1:30 pm) @ South Union Building, 21 Highland St: Join Southborough Youth & Family Services for a space to vent, get good ideas, and decompress before going back to the very important job of parenting. For details, see related post.

  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist you. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. Sessions are limited to no more than 1 hour.

  • ARHS Sophomore Parent Webinar (9:45 am) @ zoom: Algonquin Regional High School Guidance Counselors will present to parents of sophomores on Naviance and Career Exploration. (A link to the presentation will be emailed a few days before the event.)

  • NSBORO Keynote (7:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School auditorium: Southborough parent and author Jennifer De Leon is NSBORO’s guest speaker on the Power of Stories.   • Trottier Volleyball Marathon (8:00 am – 6:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: Trottier’s largest annual fundraiser. During school hours, teachers bring their classes to the gym to play. The school day ends with an 8th grade/teacher volleyball game, followed by Stay and Play. Registration and fees apply. (Families should look for email.)
  • Billiards (8:30 am – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Weekly drop-in play. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Canasta (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.

  • Innovation Saturday at Fay (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Fay School: Free hands-on workshops, designed for children ages 6-12 to learn more about engineering, creativity, and design. Registration required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • ARHS NHS Easter Egg Hunt (10:00 am) @ Algonquin Regional High School football field, Northborough: The school’s National Honor Society welcomes Northborough and Southborough Families to an Easter Egg hunt for ages 5 and under. Registratin is required and participants are asked to bring a food pantry donation for admission. For details, see related post.
  • Saturdays at Fay (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Fay School playground: A free spring celebration with music, dancing, bubbles, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, snacks, and more. Registration required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Postponed to April 16 – Kindergroup Easter Egg Hunt (10:00 am) @ St Mark’s School’s field (corner of routes 30 & 85): The Southborough community is invited to a free egg hunt. Festivities begin with taking photos of kids visiting the Easter Bunny. At 11:30 am, the hunt begins – including for golden eggs to receive a prize basket. For details, see dedicated post.   • FaySummer Camp Open House (11:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Fay School: Learn more about this summer’s programs, go on a campus tour, and children can participate in camp activities with counselors. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Boy Scout’s Pancake Breakfast (8:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Neary School cafeteria: Troop 1 Boy Scouts 50th annual fundraiser. The menu also includes sausage, ham, and beverages. Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for seniors and kids 6-12, and children 5 and under eat for free. You can get your tickets from a Troop 1 Boy Scout or buy them online. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Cutler Jazz Festival (6:30 pm) @ St. Mark’s School: Annual Jazz Festival of St. Mark’s students and guest artists. The event is free to the public, no registration required. For details, see dedicated post.

Updated (4/5/22 9:24 am): St. Mark’s School shared a public invitation to their jazz concert this Sunday.

Updated (4/6/22 1:14 pm): I noted that the rain date for the Kindergroup Easter Egg Hunt is April 16th. Nothing has been announced yet, but looking at the weather, it that might come into play. (Fingers crossed that the forecast improves closer to Saturday.)

Updated (4/8/22 2:14 pm): The Kindergroup event is officially postponed to its rain date – April 16th. Also, it appears that registration for the ARHS NHS event has closed. I couldn’t find any information on whether or not it is being postponed due to the forecast.
