Senior Center addition out to bid

The proposed renovation of the Southborough Senior Center is out to bid. A pre-bid conference at the project site is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The Town issued an “Invitation to Bid” on the project to add a 670 sq ft additions to Cordaville Hall. The notice was posted in Metrowest Daily News on August 26th.

In March, the Select Board approved using $20K in eligible ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to contract engineering and architecture plans for the addition.

In May, the Town’s ARPA Committee recommended the Board follow up with an additional $380K to cover building the room. The Select Board voted on May 31st to approve allocating $325K for the project.

At that time, the Board stated the project would be vetted by the Capital Planning Committee.*

The notice estimates a project cost of $320K and describes:

The Project consists of: New 670 square foot Community Room Addition to the Southborough Senior Center/Town Offices. New mechanical systems include plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, fire alarm, and electrical. Sitework includes excavation and re-grading, and all related site utilities, site improvements, and landscaping within the project site.

The pre-bid conference and 9 Cordaville Road site visit are scheduled for 11:00 am this Thursday, September 8th. Bids are due in by Monday, September 12th at noon. For the full notice, click here.

The long-sought project is meant to help meet the Senior Center’s needs for the short term.  The building work would be simultaneous to the Town’s efforts to research a potential Community Center to be built further down the road. The latter project is meant to encompass the Senior Center’s longer term needs.

*(Although Capital was presented the project need in December and followed it as it went through the ARPA recommendation process, I couldn’t find agendas or minutes showing that Capital ever voted on it. That may mean the plan is to “vet” it once bids come back giving the Committee a better idea of the actual costs.)
