There’s been a lot of discussion on this blog lately about how the town is run — things you like about what our elected officials do, things you don’t like … mostly things you don’t like. It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback when it comes to these things. It’s much harder to be the one actually making the decisions.
So perhaps it’s time for you to get out of that armchair and join the ranks of the decision-makers. There are a number of key elected positions up for grabs this year, including a seat on the Board of Selectmen and one on both school committees.
Here’s a complete list of open positions. All are 3-year terms unless otherwise noted.
- Moderator (1-year term)
- Board of Selectmen
- Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds
- Board of Assessors
- Board of Health
- Board of Trustees, Library — 3 positions (one for a 2-year term and two for 3-year terms)
- Southborough School Committee
- Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee
- Planning Board (5-year term)
- Southborough Housing Authority (5-year term)
If you want to run, stop by the Town Clerk’s office in the Town House by March 19 to pick up the paperwork. Then find 44 of your fellow residents (registered voters only) to sign your nomination papers, and return them to the Town Clerk by March 22. The town election is on May 10.
