If all goes according to plan, the north side of Southville Road from Liberty Drive to about 200 feet before the Ashland town line — by the parking lot of the Rose Garden restaurant — will get a new sidewalk later this year.
Town Engineer John Woodsmall said the project is being funded by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. He said former state representative Paul Loscocco secured the funds after a request from area residents.
The roadway is maintained by MassDOT, and while they’re paying for the project, the town is managing the design, permitting, bidding, and construction. Woodsmall said the project design is at the 100-percent stage and plans have been sent to MassDOT for final review and approval. Assuming MassDOT approves the plans, construction will begin later this year.
All the plans for the project have been posted on the town website if you care to take a look.
