Want to find out what new titles have arrived at the library? How about what events are happening this month? Or maybe you want to reserve one of the library’s museum passes? Or what about downloading an audiobook, ebook, or movie? You can now do all that and more on the Southborough Library’s new website.
The website was launched earlier this year after about six months of planning and development. Library Director Jane Cain said the new site has more information and is more robust than the old one. “It’s essentially another branch of the library,” she said.
Cain said they’ve received lots of positive feedback from patrons who like all the new website has to offer, but it’s also a boon to the library staff. Cain said because patrons can go to the website to find the information they’re looking for, the staff spends less time answering the phone. That means they have more time to provide in-person help once people get to the library.
“The staff is thrilled with it,” Cain said, and they all have a role in keeping the information up-to-date, from posting about upcoming events, to sharing their favorite new books.
“I love how it makes everything accessible,” children’s librarian Jen Low said. “It’s just so easy.”
The website cost around $2K to design and develop, and was paid for by the Friends of the Southborough Library. “We have a very generous friends organization,” Cain said.
