This month, St. Mark’s School is holding its annual jazz festival. The Cutler Jazz Festival features guest performers along with the school’s Jazz Band. As always, the public is invited to attend for free.
This year’s festival features “world-renowned saxophonist and percussionist Yosvany Terry, who also conducts jazz ensembles at Harvard University”. They will also be joined by MIT’s Jazz Band directed by Keala Kaumeheiwa. The school’s Jazz ensembles are directed by St. Mark’s Jazz Director Stephen Fell.

The New York Times says: “Mr. Terry, a Cuban-born, conservatory-trained musician who moved to New York in 1999, has centered his career on such multilevel fluencies. In recent years, along with a few other bandleaders of similar background, he has helped reframe the sound of Afro-Cuban jazz in New York, reaching for a flexibly cerebral, harmonically advanced and culturally resonant kind of fusion.”

The St. Mark’s concert will take place Sunday, April 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Class of ’45 Hall in the Putnam Family Arts Center. A reception to greet the artists will follow.
No registration is required to attend.
