[The Boston Marathon always includes a pack of runners from our town. Between now and Patriots Day, I’m featuring stories of resident runners donning bibs for a cause]
Resident Jen Martin is running in her 6th Boston Marathon. Although she qualified to run without joining an official charity team, she has decided to leverage the run to raise funds for a cause with Southborough roots — Shannon’s Path.
As explained on her fundraising page:
This local, family-run, non-profit organization was inspired by former beloved Southborough resident Shannon McDonald and seeks to fund rare cancer research and to support integrative cancer care for those impacted by diseases similar to hers.
Of her motivation to support the cause, Martin writes:
Cancer has crossed most of our paths either directly or indirectly. Some of us receive treatment and carry on. Others fight as hard and as long as they can only to lose the battle. We need a cure and that requires more research. . .
Together we can make a difference in the countless lives of those affected by cancer and move us closer to a cure.
