On Friday, a message from the NSBORO Superintendent gave an update on the project to renovate and update Algonquin Regional’s outdoor facilities project. Not surprisingly, it’s behind schedule.
While part of the delay is the heavy rains in our region this summer, it appears supply chain issues are also to blame.
The original schedule optimistically had ARHS sports playing on the new fields by early fall. Now they’re targeting the end of fall season.
The message began with a positive message about work having started “right on schedule” and touting “much work has been accomplished in seven weeks”. Readers glancing at it on Friday may have missed the less positive news that much further down in the message following the list of completed tasks.
According to the message, families of students enrolled in fall sports will be contacted this summer about “scheduling accommodations”. Below is an excerpt from Superintendent Gregory Martineau’s July 21st message:
When will the project be completed? At a meeting with Gale Associates, Inc. (The project management firm) and DW on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, it was communicated that the public works project is behind schedule by eight to twelve weeks. DW has provided a target completion date of the end of October, early November. The delay results from supply chain issues with the grandstand, which won’t arrive until October, and weather impacts. DW has had to navigate heavy rains, which has impacted its proposed schedules. Principal Bevan is working closely with Mike Mocerino, ARHS Athletic Director, to identify scheduling accommodations for fall sports. Mr. Mocerino will communicate directly with fall coaches, who will communicate with families. The District intended to complete the project by early fall to allow for most games to be played on the new complex; however, the fact is that this is no longer feasible.
The amenities building construction is anticipated to begin in late November and early December. The project involves internal construction, and the existing footprint of the amenities building will be unchanged.
The goal is to complete the full project by late winter or early spring and have all spring sports take advantage of the new complex. I will continue to provide updates in the weeks and months ahead as the project progresses. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out either by phone or email.
