The week in sports

Algonquin Titans had another good week.

Girls Volleyball has been on a tear. They’ve won all four of their games this season. The most recent was Friday’s 3-0 win over Nashoba.

Field Hockey by Owen JonesField Hockey also beat Nashoba 3-0 on Friday. (You can read the Community Advocate’s coverage here and more photo highlights by Owen Jones Photography here.) The team is still undefeated four games in (though one game was a tie).

In their first meet of the season, both Cross Country teams beat Shrewsbury on Tuesday. The Boys won 16-44 and the Girls 20-37.

Girls Soccer was finally able to get in the action last week. They’re at 1-1 after a 2-1 loss to Westborough 2-1 followed by a 3-0 win over Leominster. (They also scrimmaged against St. Mark’s last week – but those scores don’t get posted.)

After their rough first week, Boys Soccer may be finding their footing. They tied Westborough 2-2 on Monday, then beat Leominster 1-0 on Thursday. They now stand at 1-2-1.

Boys Golf improved their record to 3-2 by beating Nashoba on Tuesday.

Titans v Hopkinton by Owen Jones PhotographyFootball lost 21-44 to Hopkinton on Thursday. They now stand at 0-2. Though they are the only Titans team with no wins yet this season, photos from the game show that attending the game is still popular entertainment.

As of last week, tickets will no longer be sold in person. From now on, admission to Algonquin home games will be sold online through Vanco events.

Based on the school’s season pass promotion, I assume that Football is the only fall sport that fans have to pay to attend during regular season.

Athletics and the Boosters are promoting that a $50 pass for 2023-3034 bypasses lines and allows entry to all regular season home games for Football, Basketball, and Boys Hockey. (It doesn’t cover MIAA post-season tournaments.) To sign up, for that click here

Of course, I should note that the Football home games aren’t actually at home for now, since the GonkPlex is still under construction. Most will take place on Westborough’s field.
