With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Donald Francis Dillman. Don left this world peacefully on September 4, 2023, surrounded by family who lovingly held his hand as he transitioned to his eternal rest.
Born on November 23, 1934, in Worcester, MA, Don was the cherished son of Elizabeth and Joseph Dillman. In 1954, he married the love of his life Marilyn Good. They celebrated 66 happy years together raising a family in a home filled with laughter, joy, and unwavering love.
Don was predeceased by his loving wife Marilyn (d. February 4, 2021), his brothers Joseph and Robert, and his sister Phyllis Masterson.
He is survived by his loving sister Mary Jane McKenna and her husband Bill, his sister-in-law Beryl Dillman, his three sons, Scott and his wife Karen, Andy and his wife Alison, and Steve and his wife Susan, and seven grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Nikki, Heather and her husband Nick, Courtney and her husband Caldwell, Michael and his wife Megan, Kelsey, Jack, Meredith and great grandchild Wells Huckabay.
Together Don and Marilyn raised three devoted sons. Don was extremely proud of his sons and absolutely cherished time spent with his daughters-in-law. Nothing brought him greater delight than being with his seven grandchildren. He showered them with love and created lasting memories they will forever hold dear. Don was overjoyed to have a great-grandson Wells, born earlier this year.
Don graduated from New England School of Accounting and Classical High School. He later taught at New England School of Accounting which was founded by his father.
Don was a CPA and had a distinguished accounting career in New England. He worked at George A. Smith, Tupper & Moore, Main Hurdman, and finished his career as a Managing Partner at KPMG. In addition, he was a Board Director for 30 years and the CFO for five years of Washington Mills, headquartered in North Grafton. Also for three years he was a co-owner of Sleeper and Hartley Corporation, a long standing manufacturer of spring-making machinery in Worcester.
While Don enjoyed his work, his greatest passion was his family. He loved lively family gatherings in Southborough, Sarasota, and Lake Winnipesaukee. Summers spent together on Lake Winnipesaukee hold a special place in all our hearts.
Don lived life to the fullest through outdoor adventures cross-country skiing, golfing, and boating. He selflessly gave back to his community through his dedicated service as the Treasurer at Worcester Country Club, vestry positions at both Trinity Episcopal Church in Meredith, NH and Saint Mark’s Church in Southborough, and Planning Board in Southborough.
Although Don will be deeply missed, his unwavering love, laughter, and guidance will live on in our hearts and memories forever. We find peace in knowing he is reunited with his loving wife Marilyn.
A memorial service and celebration of Don’s remarkable life will be held on November 4, 2023, at 10:00 at Saint Mark’s Church in Southborough. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org in his memory.
