Tonight through Saturday, four Algonquin home teams will host first round games in MIAA state tournaments. One of them is the new Class A CMass Champs for Girls Soccer.
It’s the team’s first big title since they were champs of the restricted “Pod of 8” in 2020. The two following years, they made it all the way to the CMADA Finals, where they lost.
Last night, they played Shrewsbury in the Finals. Twice this season, the Titans had tied the Colonials 1-1. The third time was the charm with a 1-0 win to cinch the title.
The Telegram briefly summed up:
Shaila Seghal redirected a ball from the box into the top corner with 12 minutes left in the game to send the second-seeded Titans (11-4-4) past the No. 4 Colonials (9-6-4) to claim the CMADA Class A title at Assabet Valley. Bella Roman (3 saves) earned the shutout for Algonquin.
The Metrowest Daily News gave the plays more dramatic coverage and spoke to players about the triumph. You can read their story here.
This Saturday, the girls will enter the MIAA Division 1 state tourney. The 11th seed Titans will bypass the preliminary round to play 22nd seed Lexington in the Round of 32. The home game will take place November 4th at 7:00 pm.
This evening, fans can head to Algonquin to cheer on 7th seed Field Hockey in their D1 championship bid. They’ll play 26th seed North Andover in the Round of 32 at 5:00 pm.
On Friday night at 6:00 pm, Algonquin Boys Soccer will play in their Preliminary Round of the D1 tourney. The 27th seed boys will host 38th seed New Bedford.
Girls Volleyball bypassed the D2 Preliminary Round. They’ll enter at the Round of 32 an hour earlier on Friday night, at 5:00 pm. The 2nd seed team will host 32nd seed Masconomet.
