On Monday, the Southborough Library is holding another session of Drop-In Chess. The session also includes a tutorial for newbies.

Drop in chessThe next drop-in session will take place November 20th. The Library promotes:

Are you ready to make your next move? Join the library on select Monday afternoons as we reconfigure the Main Floor Stacks into a gaming space for chess players of all ages.

Free play is from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM – then Teen volunteer & Algonquin student Luca will be on hand to help teach to new participants from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Bring a friend, or make a new one, as attendees play the competitive classic game: Chess.

The program welcomes all ages. No experience is necessary. No registration required.

The program was offered weekly in the spring. These days, the event will be offered about once per month. (The December date is still TBD.)

Since I’m sharing that news, I’ll also remind that the Library offers circulating Chess sets for those who want to play or practice at home.

The Library’s website lists Chess sets among its special circulating items:

We invite patrons who are beginners just learning this fun game and advanced players looking to fine tune their skills to use our circulating chess sets that include a timer.

The chess sets can be found in the Teen Room downstairs and are now available for check out and use in the Southborough Library. The set includes a fabric board and pieces as well as instructions for how to play if you are new to chess or would like to reference the rules while playing.
