Trail Blazers update & invite for active seniors

The Senior Center's group is sharing news on its recent tour of St. Mark's School and inviting more seniors to join them for future activity planning and outings.

In 2015, a group of active Southborough seniors collaborated with the Southborough Senior Center to found “the Trail Blazers”. The nationally recognized group has regularly organized outings with activities that included scenic hiking/biking, walking tours, boating, snowshoeing, and other adventures.

One of its organizers asked me to share their latest news with photos from their most recent outing and an invitation for future members to join them for upcoming fun (like a schooner trip and pedal cars).

Here is their announcement:

Trail Blazers at St. Mark’s School

On Thursday, July 11th, a group of local Seniors got the chance to tour the grounds and buildings of St. Mark’s school here in Southborough.  The tour group was made up of members from the Trail Blazers organization, an active seniors organization lead by Mary Ann Anderson of Southborough.  The Trail Blazers is a self governed organization that plans multiple events each month ranging from trail hiking, historical site visits, and just plain fun activities.  The tour was conducted by David Vachris former Dean of Students at St. Mark’s and how member of SM Advancement Office.  The tour gave the members, many of whom who have never had the opportunity see the campus, a new perspective the St. Mark’s long history in Southborough, the extent of the  school’s facilities and the academic focus of the school.

The Trail Blazers is appreciative of the time Dave spent with the group and would like to thank the school for the opportunity to see first hand the school in detail.

The Trail Blazers have been in existence for nine years and welcomes membership from Southborough and surrounding communities.  Each event planned by the organization is the result of recommendations by the members.  Upcoming events include a hike at Wachusett Reservoir, an nighttime astronomy program, a schooner trip in Gloucester, a walk on the floating bridge in Marlborough and a pedal car adventure in Rhode Island.  If this type of activity is something you find of interest, give the Southborough Senior Center a call to find out how to join the group.

The Senior Center’s phone number is 508-229-4453. It is open weekdays from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.

The Senior Center’s summer newsletter shows that the Trail Blazer’s next planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7th at 3:30 pm. (For news on other non-Trail Blazer activities through the Senior Center this summer, click here.)
