The Worcester Red Sox is challenging Southborough residents to dominate the Boroughs at their friendly “Town Takeover” competition in two weeks.

It looks like the team is counting on home town rivalries to gin up excitement for attending upcoming games. And on of those nights will focus on our region.

On Wednesday, August 14th, the WooSox will host “The Battle of the Boroughs”. The team promotes that Southborough, Northborough, Marlborough, and Westborough residents will be “heavily featured” during the WooSox pregame ceremonies and throughout the game.

The event is also promoted as a local fundraiser. Every ticket sold through the promotional link will donate $5 to a local non-profit. For this event, they selected the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest and the Westborough Food Pantry. (Each ticket will also be loaded with $2 credit to be used on concessions and merchandise.)

The team is hosting 24 Town Takeover events this year. At the end of the season, the Town with the largest turnout for its date will be rewarded with a trophy and special recognition.

The August 14th game is WooSox vs the Iron Pigs, 6:45 pm at Polar Park. To buy Battle of the Boroughs tickets, click here.

[Note: As of this afternoon, the QR code on the flyer worked, but the url didn’t. That’s why I crossed it out!]

Updated (8/12/24 12:42 pm): A representative from the local American Legion Baseball team (Northboro Legion Post 234 – which includes Southborough players) informed me that they will throw the first pitch. They are hoping for a good turnout and asked me to share the news.
