Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town through this weekend.

Monday, August 5, 2024

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Social knitting group — scheduled to meet weekly this summer. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”.
  • Teen Craft Club (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Tweens & teens ages 10+ can drop in weekly to make recycled art crafts. No registration necessary.

Tuesday, August 6, 2024

  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Mr. Vinny’s Shadow Puppets (4:00 – 4:45 pm) @ Southborough Library, Main floor: The entertainer returns to the library with his custom made, interactive show for kids. All ages welcome. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Cook Book Club (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Members gather to share the food they cooked from recipes. New participants are encouraged and all ages and partners welcome.  For more info, see related post and email msorensen@southboroughma.com about this month’s details.
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, August 7, 2024

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Outdoor Story Time (4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library lawn: Bring a blanket and listen to stories outside on the lawn! This event is for families with kids of all ages, no registration is required. (In inclement weather, this will move to the Children’s Room.)
  • Southborough Summer Concert Series (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Neary’s Outdoor Stage, 53 Parkerville Road: Southborough Recreation’s free weekly family friendly outdoor concert series. Bring your dinner or buy one there from a food truck. This week’s featured act is kids’ entertainer Stacey Peasley. For details, see related post.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

Thursday, August 8, 2024

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Youth Nature Club (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Tweens & teens ages 10 -18 are invited to join a club to help with the library’s veggie garden and other outdoor activities
  • Drop in Legos (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Children are invited to build with Legos and display their creations in the Children’s Room. Legos will be provided. Parents or caregivers must stay with children.
  • Sit & Knit (6:30 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Semi-monthly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
  • Virtual Book Club (7:30 – 8:30 pm) @ zoom: The discussion group is hosted by the Southborough Library. Participants can chat about what they’re reading or listening to with library staff and other patrons. For details, or to sign up, email rdonovan@cwmars.org.

Friday, August 9

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Kids Jam (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Newborns through preschoolers are invited to dance and sing. No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. For details, see related post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Board Games (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Ages 10+ are invited to drop in weekly to play a nature themed board game, led by Youth Services Librarian Marianna.

Saturday, August 10, 2024

  • Shiftstrong Home Run Derby (time) @ where: 3rd annual fundraiser for ALSONE in the memory of Brian Shifrin. The competitions are split by age groups and softball/baseball. For details and to register, click here.

  • Monarch Meander (1:30 – 3:30 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: The “Family Walk & Learn event” features a ranger-led walk and learning how to use a butterfly tagging system to “become a citizen scientist”. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.
