  • Shiftstrong Home Run Derby (time) @ where: 3rd annual fundraiser for ALSONE in the memory of Brian Shifrin. The competitions are split by age groups and softball/baseball. For details and to register, click here.

  • Monarch Meander (1:30 – 3:30 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: The “Family Walk & Learn event” features a ranger-led walk and learning how to use a butterfly tagging system to “become a citizen scientist”. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.

Monday, August 12, 2024

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Social knitting group — scheduled to meet weekly this summer. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”.
  • Teen Craft Club (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Tweens & teens ages 10+ can drop in weekly to make recycled art crafts. No registration necessary.

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Birds of Prey (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library’s main floor: Wingmasters will bring live raptors to educate kids. Recommended for ages 6+. Sponsored by the Friends of Southborough Library. No registration necessary. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Bring in five copies of original poetry to share. The group will provide supportive feedback. If you don’t have a poem, come anyway and share your insights. (Meets twice monthly.)
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, August 14, 2024

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Elder Law Advice (10:00 – 10:45 am) @ phone or zoom: Southborough seniors can sign up for a free 15 minute session of individualized legal advice from an Elder Law attorney. For details, see the Senior Center’s newsletter, p. 9.
  • Outdoor Story Time (4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library lawn: Bring a blanket and listen to stories outside on the lawn! This event is for families with kids of all ages, no registration is required. (In inclement weather, this will move to the Children’s Room.)
  • Southborough Summer Concert Series (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Neary’s Outdoor Stage, 53 Parkerville Road: Southborough Recreation’s free weekly family friendly outdoor concert series. This week’s featured act is Elastic 5 Band For details, see dedicated post.
  • WooSox’s “The Battle of the Boroughs” (6:45 pm) @ Polar Park, Worcester: The AAA Baseball team is promoting a “Town Takeover” event for the boroughs. The Northboro Legion Post 234 team (which includes Southborough players) will throw the first pitch. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Library Strategic Planning Forum (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Provide feedback for the next 5-year strategic plan of the Southborough Library. All members of the public at all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Youth Nature Club (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Tweens & teens ages 10 -18 are invited to join a club to help with the library’s veggie garden and other outdoor activities
  • Kids’ Ice Cream Party (3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with an ice cream sundae party! Bring in your reading logs, play some games, and enjoy ice cream! Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library.
  • TLT: Kindness Rocks (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Teens are invited to drop-in to decorate Kindness Rocks with Lily from OUTMetrowest. For details, see related post.

Friday, August 16, 2024

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Kids Jam (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Newborns through preschoolers are invited to dance and sing. No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. For details, see related post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Board Games (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Ages 10+ are invited to drop in weekly to play a nature themed board game, led by Youth Services Librarian Marianna.

  • Yoga for grieving mothers (4:40 – 6:00 pm) @ Theracopia Therapeautic Wellness Center, 5 Crystal Pond Road : Free yoga, deep meditation and Reiki healing offered to mothers who have lost a child and their families For details, see dedicated post.
