In less than a month, the of Southborough, Northborough, and Shrewsbury Rec Connect program will host a “Sneaker Prom” for teens with disabilities and their families.
Earlier this year, I shared news about the programming partnership between the Recreation departments of the three towns:
designed for participants with disabilities and their families and friends to come together and build meaningful relationships while enjoying recreational opportunities, leisure activities, events and community outings.
Registration for most of the “Rec Connect” programs will be conducted through Shrewsbury’s website. (That means you’ll need to create a profile on their system.) But all of the programs are also listed on Southborough Rec’s website.
The “prom” is for ages 13+ (for $10 each) and their adult parents/caregivers (at $5 each). It will take place Saturday, September 7th from 6:00 – 8:30 pm at the Shrewsbury Senior Center.

Lace up your sneakers, folks, Rec Connect will see you on the dance floor! Our DJ will be playing the hits so you can dance the night away. Join us for dinner, dancing, games and crafts. . .
Family members are welcome to join.
Participants can also “enter our raffle for your chance to win a pair of customized Converse sneakers, designed to your liking.”

Monthly outings (Ages 16+, participants and buddies welcome.):
- September: Tougas Farm apple picking, Northborough
- October: Gulbankian’s Terrarium class, October 9th 6:00-7:30 pm Southborough Senior Center
- November: Dinner and a movie, Shrewsbury Senior Center
- December: College Basketball game
