Elaine Ruth Hickey, 81, gently fell asleep to this world during the early morning hours of Thursday, August 15, 2024, and awakened in Heaven to the welcoming embrace of her Lord and Savior and those who have gone before her.
Elaine was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on September 3, 1942, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth (Mycock) Taylor. Her family would relocate to Southborough where she graduated with Algonquin Regional High School’s first graduating class. As a young adult, Elaine and her husband, the late Daniel M. Hickey, first made their home in Westborough; it was here that they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth. Later they moved to Medway, living there for many years until 1992 when they purchased land in North Berwick Maine and built their home.
Elaine worked hard, both as a mother and in her various places of employment which included Sage Labs of Natick, the Medway elementary school’s cafeteria and PIA Insurance. She was a woman of faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a member of the choir. She subsequently worshiped at the Medway Village Church and Christ Episcopal Church in Medway where she served on the Vestry. While residing in North Berwick, Maine, Elaine and Danny and were active within the Berwick Methodist Church and its outreach to the locally homeless population there. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting gifts for her family and friends. She also was a very talented cook. Above all, Elaine enjoyed being a grandmother and looked forward to assisting Elizabeth in the care of her children.
Surviving Elaine is her beloved daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Seekins of Bellingham; three grandchildren whom she adored, Carl Caddell of Bellingham, Julia Caddell of Newmarket, NH, and Emily Seekins of Bellingham; two siblings, Steven Taylor and his wife Janice of Marlborough and Carole Bezokas and her husband Robert of Southborough. Her husband Daniel passed away in 2016.
In honor of Elaine’s love for animals, her family respectfully suggest memorial donations be directed to the Medfield Animal Shelter, 101 Old Bridge Street, Medfield, MA 02052 (medfieldshelter.com).
Elaine’s funeral will be held in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street, Southborough, at 11 o’clock in the morning, on Friday, September 20th. Interment will follow in Southborough Rural Cemetery.
