Early Voting in the primaries, Back to School week, and a concert at the GonkPlex

Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Monday, August 26, 2024

  • Early voting in Primary (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Town House foyer, 17 Common St: You can cast your ballots early for candidates running for state and regional offices in the September 3rd State Primary. For details, see related post.
  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Social knitting group — scheduled to meet weekly this summer. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”.
  • ARHS Incoming Music Families Meeting (7:00 – 8:00pm) @ Algonquin Chorus Room: description. For details, see dedicated post.

Tuesday, August 27, 2024

  • Early voting in Primary (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Town House foyer, 17 Common St: You can cast your ballots early for candidates running for state and regional offices in the September 3rd State Primary. For details, see related post.
  • ARHS Orientation (9:00 – 11:00 am) @ Algonquin Regional High School: Algonquin Freshman Activities and Orientation for new upperclassmen.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • ARHS Freshman Dance & Parent Meeting (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School: The social for Algonquin’s incoming class takes place at the same time as an info night for their parents.
  • AVRTHS Freshman Orientation: The first day of the two-day orientation for Assabet Valley Regional Technical School.
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Bring in five copies of original poetry to share. The group will provide supportive feedback. If you don’t have a poem, come anyway and share your insights. (Meets twice monthly.)
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, August 28, 2024

  • Early voting in Primary (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Town House foyer, 17 Common St: You can cast your ballots early for candidates running for state and regional offices in the September 3rd State Primary. For details, see related post.

  • AVRTHS Freshman Orientation: The 2nd day of the two-day orientation for Assabet Valley Regional Technical School.
  • Open Houses for Finn, Woodward, and Neary schools (4:00 – 6:00 pm): Open houses for parents and students.

  • First Day of School: The first day of school for Northborough-Southborough Public Schools and AVRTHS.
  • Early voting in Primary (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Town House foyer, 17 Common St: You can cast your ballots early for candidates running for state and regional offices in the September 3rd State Primary. For details, see related post.
  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.

  • AVRTHS has day off from school:  Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School starts the long Labor Day weekend early.
  • Early voting in Primary (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Town House foyer, 17 Common St: You can cast your ballots early for candidates running for state and regional offices in the September 3rd State Primary. (This is the last day of early voting. The primary is on September 3rd.) For details, see related post.
  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Kids Jam (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Newborns through preschoolers are invited to dance and sing. No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. For details, see related post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.

Sunday, September 2, 2024

  • Northborough Summer Concert (5:00 – 7:00 pm) @Algonquin Regional High School GonkPlex Ampitheater: The community ampitheater will host a free concert with food vendors. (Stay tuned for details.)

Monday, September 2, 2024

  • Labor Day:  No public school and Town offices and facilities are closed for the holiday.

Updated (8/26/24 11:50 am): I had forgotten to include the concert at the new amipitheater (paid for by both Northborough and Southborough taxpayers as part of the GonkPlex renovations.)
