The week in sports

ARHS Football triumphed in the big season opener, and they weren't the only ones.

Spirits were high on Friday night as Algonquin Football played under the lights of their new stadium for the first time. Adding to the night’s excitement was the school’s choice to use the event for its official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the venue.

The team and students were still pumped at the end of the game as the Titans triumphed in the season opener 19-7 over the Nashoba Wolves.

With only one game under their belt, Football is one of just a few ARHS varsity teams that can still claim undefeated status.

Field Hockey beat Minnechaug on Sept 6th (photo courtesy of Owen Jones Photography)Last week,  Field Hockey won its first two games, beating Marlborough 7-1 and 5-2. They followed up with another win today, 2-0 over Acton-Boxborough.

And like Football, Girls Volleyball beat Nashoba in its season opener, 3-1. (That was away. Their first home game is this Tuesday.)

Boys Soccer tied its opener against Nipmuc (2-2), but beat Marlborough on Saturday 5-3. Boys Golf beat Marlborough in its season opener (42.5-11.5) but lost its next two competitions to St. John’s (201-229) and Wachusett (193-209).

Girls Soccer lost its only game to date, 2-1 to Acton-Boxborough.

Cross Country teams haven’t competed in any meets yet. Their first competitive runs are this Wednesday.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week:
